Overview
Enter Andromeda is a small arcade shooter inspired by the classic Asteroids formula.
You control a small spaceship drifting through an asteroid field, dodging and shooting rocks to survive as long as possible. Each destroyed asteroid earns you points.
Gameplay
The game features simple but responsive controls — rotate your ship, accelerate forward, and fire projectiles to destroy incoming asteroids. As time passes, more asteroids spawn, testing your ship controls.
Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible and rack up a high score before your ship is destroyed.
Development
This project was my first experiment using the Godot Engine, developed over a few weeks as a way to learn the basics of the engine’s node system, physics, and scripting through GDScript.
I kept the scope intentionally small, focusing on getting comfortable with Godot’s 2D systems, player movement, collision handling, and simple particle effects.
Challenges & Learnings
Building Enter Andromeda taught me:
- The fundamentals of Godot’s scene and node architecture
- How to manage simple physics interactions and object pooling
- Basic UI and score systems
- The importance of iteration — small, finished projects are great learning experiences
It also confirmed that Godot is a great fit for my workflow, and motivated me to continue creating games in it.
